2 years ago, in December, I got the crazy idea to start setting up WordPress sites for people and I have to say, it’s been pretty cool! I wanted to take the time to tell everyone I’ve been working with how grateful I am that you have come into my life. Thank you so much for your good faith, your referrals and your continuing business.
After spending the last 30 years in businesses that required that I go out and hustle myself (voice acting, direct sales) it’s been a great relief to have business come to me via word of mouth or straight off my websites. Although I would never turn down a voice acting gig that came along because that’s been my thing for decades and I have a long, extensive resume.
Now, I occasionally attend networking groups more for the sake of being with real live people, and for the fun of it, rather than feeling like I have to do a sales pitch to everyone I meet. What is interesting is that most of my clients live elsewhere, rather than locally. and we haven’t actually met physically even though we’ve gotten to know each other online.
I’m not going to say I’ve gotten rich as a WordPress consultant (yet) but I haven’t felt the stress I used to either trying to make a production goal or getting enough gigs to be able to feed my kids. OK, they grew up and moved out so I don’t have to feed them anymore. Thankfully they are very self sufficient. That helps a bunch.
I have my own exciting blogging projects in the works as well because my goal is to create passive income and travel. It’s so important for people in my age group, who may have been laid off or are in retirement mode, to still have control over their lives and to be able to live their passions. Blogging and working online makes it easier to do this.
Throughout the last two years I’ve learned something new every single day. Sometimes I feel like I’m solving Mensa problems trying to figure out how this or that theme or plugin works, how to create a successful sales funnel or other technical glitches that may come up. It’s a great way to keep the brain active.
I’ve been so fortunate to work with truly generous, kind, and highly creative individuals. Ok a few thought I worked for free or 24 hours a day, but I’m getting a little better about setting boundaries. I love to play as well. It may be the fact that life is short and each year I get one year older. The biggest obstacle to any business is finding the balance between work and enjoying life in general. All work and no play is not in my vocabulary. I’m an “I” personality and a Sagittarius. It’s built into my DNA.
So thank you all from the bottom of my heart. My clients, my mentors, my readers, my family, my colleagues, my fans. I appreciate you soooooo much and wish you the happiest of holidays and a prosperous New Year in 2013.
